Audits

My goal during a Best Practices Audit is to observe, review, or sample virtually everything that is involved in the operation and management of an aircraft operator, looking specifically at how they support their company's air-travel needs in a safe and efficient manner.

Typically we go in as a team of operational and maintenance experts. We are looking not only at safety practices, but the business side of the department also.  We benchmark the flight department against their peers and often suggest a more efficient or safer way to operate.

During my visit I always remain vigilant for any item or work practice that could represent a safety hazard.  If I make such a discovery, I will immediately call it to the attention of the appropriate manager to ensure the situation is promptly addressed and corrected.  I will, of course, mention the discovery of any significant hazard in my report, but will also describe how it was handled and give credit to the people who resolved it.

The overall objective is to give the company an unbiased third-party assessment of their flight operation, review them for regulatory compliance and industry best practices.  We follow up by making recommendations to help the company have as safe and efficient a flight operation as possible.
